Jewelry Design
Since March of 2004, Michael Dickey Design has used the Matrix computer design software to aide in the creation of custom jewelry. This system is Rhinoceros based and will recognize any file that is created using the Rhino software. Along with The Matrix, we also use SensAble Claytools design software. These systems use CAD/CAM technology to produce anything that can be imagined. Three of our employees have received advanced training on the complicated concepts and usage of the Matrix. Since first using the Matrix, we have designed hundreds of pieces to our customers liking and out exacting standards.
Once the piece has been designed, we take that design and mill it using a 55mm by 55mm square of wax. The thickness of the wax depends upon the requirements of the design. The milling system we use is the Revo 540. This system used computer numerical control (CNC) to ensure that the finished wax is completed exactly as it has been designed.
Once the piece has been milled, we take the wax and make a plaster mold, which is then used in the casting process that furthers the piece to completion.
For examples of some of the pieces we have completed, please look on the Custom Designs page located in our Showroom.
